Poll #818665 Season Two Game Plan

Should we continue with the current practice of having three metas and a bible entry per epsiode?

Absolutely! The more meta the merrier!
16(64.0%)
Can't we just do metas for Sam and Dean? Papa's not around enough to make him work.
7(28.0%)
What about one heavymeta per episode? That way, the meta is more likely to post near the showtime.
1(4.0%)
I think we should do away with episode-specific metas entirely and just meta what we want.
1(4.0%)

Would you volunteer to do a bible entry on an episode that hasn't even aired yet?

Nope. Have to see it to know if it's worth the trouble.
10(45.5%)
Definitely--I love the bibles, regardles of the quality of the episode.
12(54.5%)

Would you volunteer to do a meta for an episode that hasn't aired yet?

Again, no. What if Dean is a schmuck in the one I pick?
10(43.5%)
Yup. All meta all the time, baby!
13(56.5%)

Do you watch Supernatural as it airs?

When I can. Sometimes I have to Tivo.
8(30.8%)
Not usually. I have other things *cough*Grey's Anatomy*cough* to distract me on Thursday nights.
0(0.0%)
I don't live somewhere where I can get the CW. I get the episodes as soon as can.
2(7.7%)
I don't live in the U.S., so... internet, you know?
7(26.9%)
Never miss it live--family and social obligations be damned!
9(34.6%)

If you could change one thing about spn_heavymeta, what would it be?

I picked 'when I can' but really, I never can because I work Thursday nights. I TiVo and watch the next day. Which wasn't an option because "other things to distract me" isn't accurate, either, because I'm not opting to watch another show.

And I owe a meta for Dean, I know! I even watched the ep and know what I want to say. Then there was a trip to Vegas, and.. yeah. I promise to get it up before the next season starts. ;-)

...Did you know you were signed up for Dean in SOmething Wicked and not Bugs?

Cause... Something Wicked. Though I love your Bugs meta *G*.

Um.

Yes! Yes, I knew. I just.. felt inspired.

or something.

Eep!

Maybe kronette would be willing to trade eps? Do Something Wicked since I snatched Bugs? ;-) Or I can do SW as well.. just lemme know.
12th-Sep-2006 02:35 am (UTC)
Well, I already did "Bugs" for Dean, but DUDE! Dean for SW? If you don't have time, I DO! The woobie factor alone is worth it *g*

You two fight this out between yourselves. *g*

I'll be over here trying to figure out what other things I need to get done before the premiere... *sigh*

I can't believe I'm saying this, because SW is an awesome, awesome Dean ep. But - yeah. Go ahead and do the Dean meta, because with my work schedule picking up now, I'll have free time again in March. ;-)

EEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, once I get a new keyboard and chuck this one out the window, I'll work on SW meta for Dean and the Metallicar meta. Wheee!

Hmm. I said I wouldn't volunteer to meta for an ep I haven't seen...but it's because there are a couple of eps in S1 where I just wouldn't have anything to say. If I haven't seen it, how do I know I'd have anything interesting to say about it?

Bible entries are a little different. Though I find it hard work to do a good job, there's a standard format to them, so whether I can do it isn't dependent on ep content.

As for changes - stricter deadlines might be a good idea, but I don't know what's been going on 'behind the scenes' so to speak.

One thing, though: it might be an idea not to jump in head-first to season two. Maybe set the deadlines a month or even longer after each ep airs - don't know about other folks, but I find I do a better job if I've had a while to think things over and put the ep into context in my head.

I would opt for Papa-metas whenever he is in the episode. Otherwise just Sam and Dean might do. `Though one more detailed episode meta might also work since sometimes you talk about the brotherly relationship anyway and can`t really contain yourself with one guy. :)

Personally I`d have problems with doing metas for an episode I haven`t seen yet. Sometimes what`s on screen can come over differently than what was in the sides/spoilers. Otherwise it would be more speculation than actual meta.

Stricter deadlines might work but there should be some give in case RL intrudes or something.
11th-Sep-2006 11:20 pm (UTC)
If I only could get rid of RL *shakes fists* (btw, I have six notebook's pages to type with my John meta for Shadow, and I'm half-way through with my John meta for SW)
Anyway, my contribution is:
RL permitting, I am willing to write concise Papa-meta/References for all the eps in which he isn't in - season one, there were interesting things to say about him even when he wasn't in the episode, imo. I usually manage to get the eps a day or so after it airs (bless the web!). Just an offer. :)

I think it's probably better to wait until half season, until December, before organising the next heavy meta schedule; some episodes need to be rewatched, some others might be connected...if we start in the new year, there would be time to put up the meta as the second half of the season goes on, and finish the meta during the summer.

While I think it might be easier to write John-meta for episodes he's in, I do think there's some value even when he's not physically present. "Bugs", for instance, had tons of family stuff, and Papa was at the heart of it. The same for "Phamtom Traveler".

PS-I owe the Metallicar meta, but my keyboard is goingout. barely able to type this. will type it up at work and then post. yah!

I agree with phantomas, in that I think we should wait to schedule the "official" metas until the season has been going for a while. But I think we should start the bible entries any time, since they don't require a lot of mulling over an episode to do, and can always be edited. It would be nice to have people post metas for season two (character, plot, whatever) right away if they want to, but wait on the scheduled ones until we have time to get into the season a ways.

Also, I vote for meta on John only in the episodes he's in, or has an obvious impact on (e.g. "Wendigo", "Phantom Traveler", "Bugs", "Nightmare", etc. in season one). That is, unless we have someone who's willing to do them for the ones he isn't in.

Weighing in here--turns out I can only meta as the mood strikes me. For the episode-specific metas, I like it to be an episode/character where I actually have something to say (and that varies between all three Winchesters). But I like the format we have, with the bible entry and the character metas. It's great to have that on record for each episode, with the random metas here and there.

I'm amused that have-to-TiVO-it crowd and the "never miss it live" crowd is currently tied.

Suggestion: what if we waited until an episode airs, then you put out a call for bible entry and the character metas--John included only if he played a significant role in the episode, either being present or by his influence. With the goal being not to fall more than 4 episodes behind in the metas (so when episode 2x04 airs, the metas for 2x01 should be up).

What's going to be interesting about season 2 on this comm is that we won't have foresight knowledge anymore. In the season 1 metas it was so tempting to work in what I learned later in the season about the characters (I kept saying "of course we don't know this yet but...*koff*")
